It is not quite boating weather right now, but don't tell that to one Sikeston man.
George Morris traveled down to Alabama to buy himself a yacht. Little did he know that purchase would serve as his temporary home.
George Morris, and his new yacht, christened the Second Hand Lion, finally made it to Sikeston Friday afternoon.
You'd think Morris would not be fond of the state of Alabama, where the Lion broke through trailer after trailer. Morris had no choice but to wait.
"We just kept having break downs," said Morris. "Sometimes we'd move 50 feet or 100 feet or 10 miles and we'd have another break down and I'd be stuck for a week."
Morris spent nearly a month inching through Alabama, living on the Lion, and becoming quite the local celebrity. His Facebook page documents all the people who came out to wish him well, all leaving their mark on his yacht and on his heart.
George Morris says many people along the way expressed sympathy for the problems he faced on his journey. But instead, he viewed it as a challenge--one that can be marked off that bucket list in a big way.
George says he plans to put in an RV park on his property and rent out the second-hand lion for use as a honeymoon suite.
He also brought home a live palm tree from Florida which will be out there as well.
