SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Racing enthusiasts in Sikeston are mourning the loss of who some say was an icon in the racing industry.

James "Big" Walker from the Chicago area died on Friday. He reportedly raced some of the fastest Ford cars in Chicago, but to racers, his name was known nationwide.

He influence many involved in the drag racing sport, including Dominic Blasco, owner of Dyno Dom's Raceway in Sikeston.

Dyno Dom's Sikeston Raceway is honoring Walker and other racers with a memorial race later this year.

Drag racers were having test trials on Sunday.
