CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -
The Missouri Valley Conference announced Tuesday Southern Illinois guard Desmar Jackson has been named Honorable-Mention All-Conference and was also named to the MVC's All-Newcomer team.
Jackson transferred to Southern last year from Wyoming. He leads the team in scoring (15.2 ppg) and is the first Saluki guard to average double-figures since Kevin Dillard, who averaged 12.3 points in the 2009-10 season. He was a two-time MVC Newcomer of the Week pick.
SIU guard Anthony Beans was also selected to the All-Freshman team.
Beane is second in scoring among league freashmen, averaging 9.0 points. He is seventh all- time in points scored by a freshman at SIU with 271. Beane became the 10th Saluki player to earn MVC Freshman team honors.
SIU had an All-Freshman team member in four of the last five years, including Kevin Dillard in 2009, Gene Teague in 2010 and Dantiel Daniels in 2012.
