Basketball success leaves Oran looking like a ghost town

ORAN, MO (KFVS) -

As you drive into Oran, a sign at Guardian Angel School says, "Last person out of Oran, turn the lights out!"

Hundreds of Eagle fans from the town of almost 1,300 are making the trip to Columbia to watch the boys basketball team play in its first Final Four since 1969.

"The boys deserve it, they have a lot of heart," said Laurie Romas, owner of My Four Sons Cosignments and More in Oran.

But the success of the basketball team will leave Oran looking like a ghost town this weekend as much as half the town will be four hours away with the team.

"If they win tonight, we won't open on Saturday," said Albert J. Kelson, owner of the Belly Up Bar. "It just won't be worth it."

Along with possible business closings, Oran High School is closed Thursday and Friday so faculty and students can support the team.
