Youngsters team up to update an animal control house

Posted: Updated:
CHESTER, IL (KFVS) -

A group of people in Chester, Illinois saw a problem and decided to do something about it.

They're trying to fix up the animal control house and they're getting some help from some pretty young volunteers.

Folks at the Chester Animal Control House says it has a long list of problems.

"The water is not bad right now, but whenever it gets colder it freezes easy," says Zach Heldebrindt, who has raised money in a effort to upgrade the house.

Heldebrindt, with a lot of help from the community and two little girls hope to change all of that.

"The metal back there it is all jagged at the bottom," says Heldebrindt. "The birds would come in and they would sit on top of the cages."

They've already raised almost $40,000 dollars to fix up the building, so they can rescue more animals and provide them with a safe place to stay.

"Normally it is colder in here then it is outside," he says.

Right now they don't know how much money they'll need, so there's no stopping yet.

"And we plan to stick it out. We want to get a piece of land and build a better one and bigger one, more permanent," says Heldebrindt.

By selling these homemade dog treats, they hope to reach their goal of $50,000.

"They don't deserve it, that's all there is to it. you wouldn't want someone to live in it and you wouldn't want them to live in it," he says.
