KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - Kennett Country Club members celebrated the reopening of the clubhouse this weekend after it was destroyed in an arson fire nearly a year and a half ago.

Members packed the clubhouse for the celebration Friday night at 5 p.m.

Club President Jonathan Mays says it took about nine months to rebuild, and the new clubhouse can accommodate new events, in addition to the golf tournaments and wedding parties that were held there before.

"We've been working for the past summer out of just a pro shop, but now we're to the point to where we've got a full clubhouse, and can serve 300 members," he said. "You can come out on a Friday, Saturday night, Sunday afternoon ballgames, March Madness is fixin' to hit. This is perfect."

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is still investigating the circumstances around the fire that destroyed the previous building in November 2011.
