BENTON, IL (KFVS) -
The video gambling craze is underway in Southern Illinois. And bar owners are seeing some cash as players try their luck on the machines.
For some bar owners the wait for their gambling machines has been a lengthy one.
The owner of the City Limits Lounge, in Benton, Illinois says she waited more then seven months to see her machines installed and turned on.
"It's a lot to get used too. And some of my customers are older," said Karla Donaldson. " And I have to teach them how to play all the different games. You don't have to switch from machine to machine, there's like 12 games in each one of the terminals. So they can just stay there and change games without moving around."
And Donaldson says she's seen an increase in her business too since the games began tempting players.
"I got my first check from the state the other day for my first week. And it was for $705-dollars was my cut. And then the state takes 30% taxes out of that," said Donaldson. " So it's about $452-dollars, I already figured it out."
The State of Illinois also takes 25% of the action on each machine. The City of Benton collects five percent of the take.
And the players they get their cash as soon as they get through playing. They receive a Cash Validation ticket, place it under the laser-beam eye and collect their cash.
"I just hope they win. I want them all to do well. I don't want it to take all their money," Karla said.
