VAN BUREN, MO (KFVS) -
A Van Buren daycare owner is accused of abusing one of the children at her daycare.
Terry Layne Sauceda, 42, of Van Buren is charged with first degree assault. Her bond is set at $100,000 cash or corporate surety.
According to the probable cause statement, Sauceda is accused of shaking a baby, causing bleeding on the brain and a fractured collar bone.
The child began attending Little Happy Campers daycare in Van Buren in December 2012. Near that time, the baby began vomiting frequently and was diagnosed with reflux.
On Dec. 17, Sauceda contacted the child's mother to report he had vomited and collapsed.
Two days later, Sauceda contacted the child's mother again to report the baby's arms and legs were rigid and his body was limp, according to the probable cause statement.
Sauceda did not seek medical attention at that time, according to the probable cause statement.
When the baby's mother arrived at the daycare, she called for an ambulance. The baby was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital and then St. Louis Children's Hospital.
On Dec. 21, 2012, Sauceda admitted to police during an interview that she shook him.
A former worker at the daycare told police that she had called the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline after witnessing Sauceda "violently" shake a 2-year-old child who was having difficulty potty training in 2010, according to the probable cause statement.
