DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Police were called to a deadly crash on IL Rt. 152 between IL Rt. 13/127 and Kathleen Road (west of Du Quoin) Friday night.

Police say the crash happened Friday around 5 p.m. They say IL Rt. 152 has been cleared and normal flow of traffic resumed after a serious crash between IL Rt. 13-127 and Kathleen Road.

According to police, an SUV was westbound on IL Rt. 152, 1,800 feet west of Sacred Heart Road, and a car was headed east on IL Rt. 152. They say the driver of the SUV lost control and crossed over into the eastbound lane and into the path of the car.

Police say both drivers were air lifted from the scene with serious injuries.

A 3-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl who were riding in the SUV were fatally injured.

Two child passengers in the second vehicle were taken by ambulance to Pinckneyville Community Hospital where they were treated and released.
