MADISON COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Hundreds came out to Madison County Saturday for the 46th annual Whitewater Kayaking Championships.

It's being held on the St. Francis River at the Millstream Gardens Conservation Area near Fredericktown.

The two day event has races for all ages and consists of slalom, downriver and boater cross races.

Concessions are provided as fundraising efforts to help benefit Boy Scout Troop 27 of Fredericktown.

People purchase gas, food and lodging helping the area economy in the Arcadia, Ironton and Fredericktown area.

Fredericktown Mayor Kelly Korokis says it is a big help to the city when the event rolls around.

She says sales are up in restaurants, hotels and downtown shopping, as well.

The event is hosted by the Missouri Whitewater Association.

The Whitewater Championships will continue Sunday ending with a raffle and awards.
