MGM holds two-day career and vendor showcase

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

MGM held a career and vendor showcase at the MassMutual Center in downtown Springfield on Tuesday.

The event gave residents a first-hand look at what types of job opportunities and career development training they would receive if MGM got the Western Massachusetts gaming license.

Several MGM employees also held various workshops throughout the day to prepare people for getting jobs in a variety of areas, from security to food and beverage.

"I recently graduated from Westover Job Corp. in December with a certification in office administration, so now I'm here looking for a job in that field. I also came here because I knew MGM is a nice place…a great company to work for, and I also know that it will bring a lot of positive to the city of Springfield, said Sonia Kilpatrick of Springfield.

The career and vendor showcase continues to Wednesday at the MassMutual center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

MGM is competing against Penn National Gaming, who wants to build in Springfield's North End, Hard Rock International, who wants to build in West Springfield, and Mohegan Sun, who wants to build in Palmer.
