CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau's city council approved several projects at Monday night's city council meeting. All of the projects will be funded with revenue generated by the casino.

Projects include tearing down the old Visitors' Bank Center and building bigger parking lot downtown, along with more downtown lighting.

Mayor Harry Rediger says the city's getting about $2.5 million from the casino.

"We are wanting people to see that the funds we are getting from the casino originally are being used to improve the quality of life within our city and fund some projects we've not been able to do in the past."

Isle of Capri opened in Cape Girardeau in October 2012.
