LSU's Blue making a comeback

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU senior running back Alfred Blue is an impressive sight to behold. The former Hahnville standout stands a strong and chiseled 6'2 and 220 pounds.

But on this beautiful mid-March day at spring practice, Blue's green jersey is a reminder he's making a comeback.

"Everything happens for a reason," Blue says, "Last year I was off to a good start and I so happen to tear my ACL."

Long before freshman Jeremy Hill became LSU's workhorse in the backfield, it was Blue leading the way for the Tigers on the ground early last season. After just two games he had racked up 224 yards rushing, including a beautiful 21-yard scoring romp early in LSU's 41-3 shellacking of the Washington Huskies. But the week after that very impressive win, Blue indeed suffered a season-ending knee injury to the Idaho Vandals. However, he did his best to return.

"That was my whole drive during rehab. Try to get back for the bowl game."

And while Blue did travel with his teammates to Atlanta and enjoyed their company during LSU's Chick-Fil-A Bowl trip vs Clemson, there was no way he was seeing the field. However, Blue is now ready for a huge final season and adds that he's already at 90%.

"Right now, the way they have me running around is building my confidence. By the time fall camp comes, my confidence will be 100%."

As with any major rehab, Blue has frustrating barriers to break through.

"I gotta work to get my burst," he continues, "And there's fatigue. I haven't been running for a long time. You take 30 reps, you get weak, your knee gives out. Gotta keep running."

Once Blue does return to action, he hopes to be part of an improved attack. New LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron is working the running backs extremely hard on catching the football.

During the drills the media is allowed to watch, Cameron is implementing new receiving exercises that have the backs catching countless balls, from countless angles.

"I love to go out there and be a receiver." Blue smiles, "I'm 6'2, the tallest back in the room. Me out there on a linebacker, that's all day. That's money in the bank."

LSU fans can't wait for those thoughts become reality this year.

Don't worry. We'll be a lot nicer to the players in the SEC than the Emmy voters were to Netflix. We kind of have to - it's highly unlikely an actor could power clean the equivalent of a human being.
