The theft of certain metals continues to be a problem in the city of Kennett.
Kennett Police Chief James Paine reminds everyone that if criminals can't find gold and silver, some criminals will settle for copper and aluminum.
Metal doesn't have to be precious to be a target for theft. Homeowners and business owners are urged to take the appropriate measures to safeguard their homes and businesses.
Paine recommends these steps:
Getting a security system. Statistical research has found that security monitoring can significantly reduce your home's vulnerability to break-ins. Including surveillance cameras in your monitoring package will add another layer of protection.
"Caging" your air conditioner. Cover any outdoor heating/cooling units with a sturdy wire enclosure to harden the target.
Eliminating shadows. Install outdoor security lights and keep hedges trimmed so that potential intruders will find it harder to lurk around your property undetected.
