A Sikeston man is behind bars following a sex crime investigation.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says 28-year-old Bibiano Sarmiento-Merino has been charged with one count of sexual misconduct in the 1st degree, and one count of child molestation in the 2nd degree.
Walter said his office began an investigation after receiving information that Sarmiento-Merino had sexual contact with a minor child in mid February 2013.
During the investigation Sarmiento-Merino admitted to crimes that resulted in the charges filed against him. Walter said it was also discovered that Sarmiento-Merino was living in the United States illegally.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have been notified of Sarmiento-Merino's illegal presence in the United States.
