Postal employees, others to rally to save six-day mail delivery

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS/AP) - Postal employees and others rallied Sunday in a "Day of Action to Save the United States Postal Service."

Protesters wanted to preserve six day mail service.

The rallies took place in the Missouri cities of Cape Girardeau, Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield.

A rally in Cape Girardeau took place Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Post Office on 320 N. Frederick St.

According to a press release, it is about Missourians concerned about saving the Postal Service from deep cuts that some say will in turn hurt consumers and businesses.

The new spending bill passed by Congress on Thursday appears to continue the requirement for six-day mail delivery, but some lawmakers and postal officials say plans to cut Saturday service should proceed.
