JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Chances of identity theft are shredded in Jackson County.

The 3rd annual Shred Day and More event at the Jackson County Health Department was held Saturday.

The event provided a way to get rid of those old important documents that need disposed of.

Jackson County Health Department encourages people to get rid of their old unwanted tax forms and other documents to cut down on the chances of identity theft.

The department is also collecting items that can be recycled or reused including Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs), mercury thermostats and thermometers, eyeglasses and scrap metal.

Health officials say they have seen an increase in people throwing these documents away over the last couple of years and that people seem to be more aware of growing identity theft problems.
