WAPPAPELLO, MO (KFVS) -

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and the SEMO Regional Water Safety Council is participating in the 3rd Annual National "Kids to Parks" Day in May.

The event takes place on May 18- 19 in the Redman Creek Recreation Area at Wappapello Lake from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the Corps, there are several games and activities planned including water safety games featuring fatal vision goggles, ring toss, hypothermia blues, and the OHIO Challenge.

The purpose of the event is aimed to engage youth with natural and historic treasures, as well as neighborhood, state, and national parks as the summer season begins.

National "Kids to Parks" Day is endorsed by Department of the Interior's Youth in the Great Outdoors, American Academy of Pediatrics, National Education Association, and the Western Governors' Association among many others.
