Ellington returns to South Carolina football

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's leading receiver from 2012 is back on the football field, about two weeks after he finished the basketball season as a point guard.

Receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. told Bruce Ellington earlier this month to take some significant time off to recuperate after nearly eight straight months of practices and competition. But Spurrier Jr. said the Gamecocks' two-sport standout was back at football workouts the following day.

That's how it's been with Ellington during the last two years. He played only basketball as a freshman, then decided he could play both sports as a sophomore, which he did this past season.

Ellington had a team-best 600 yards receiving on 40 catches last season. He was fourth on the basketball team in scoring at 9.9 points per game.
