WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick says someone is working a "phone scam" in his county.

Vick reports someone is calling victims claiming to be from Publisher's Clearinghouse, trying to convince the victim they've won a prize.

Vick says the caller asks victims for pre-paid cards to cover state taxes.

Sheriff Vick says there is no prize and the calls are an effort to steal the pre-paid cards.

He wants to remind residents to never give personal information over the phone and never transfer money to a business you don't know.
