CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Southeast Missouri State University is sponsoring the first annual CIE Creativity Festival on Thursday, April 4 through Saturday, April 6.

The festival is an effort to foster creative ideas and action across campus and throughout the Cape Girardeau community. Festival events include a Kickoff Party, a HootUp, Coffee with Entrepreneurs, a Creativity Crawl, a variety of Creativity in Action Sessions, and a 5K Costume Fun Run/Walk.

On Thursday, April 4, activities begin with a Kickoff Party held on the Southeast campus at Kent Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. University and local community members are welcome to stop by to learn more about the Creativity Festival while enjoying free food and beverages donated from local businesses and organizations.

Missouri's first ever HootUp will take place on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 pm at Lagniappe's located at 11 South Spanish Street. Stacy Dohogne Lane of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitor's Bureau will share tips for managing personal and professional social media using HootSuite while participants benefit from an evening of networking. Appetizers will be provided by the Young Alumni Chapter of the Southeast Missouri State University Alumni Association, and a cash bar will be available. Participants are encouraged but not required to register through http://hootupcape.eventbrite.com, and all are welcome to follow the HootUp at #hootupcape on Twitter.

Deb Maevers, owner of Pastimes Antiques, will share her entrepreneurial story at the CIE Coffee with Entrepreneurs session on the morning of Friday, April 5 at 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in Dempster Hall Room 128. Participants are welcome to enjoy free breakfast and coffee while Maevers highlights her experiences as the director of the VintageNOW fashion show, an annual fundraising event benefitting The Safe House for Women.

Friday's festivities conclude with a Creativity Crawl in downtown Cape Girardeau from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The interactive online scavenger hunt event begins and ends at West Bank Bistro located at 340 S. Lorimier, across from the Southeast River Campus. Teams will use Twitter to document various attractions, businesses, and experiences in downtown Cape Girardeau. Preregistration is encouraged but not required.

Creativity in Action Sessions will be held at various times and locations on or close to campus on Thursday and Friday afternoons during the festival. These free one-hour gatherings are hands-on workshops focused on exploring something new. The lineup of sessions includes a theater workshop, a fishing lesson, a Zumba class, a disc golf lesson, a yoga session, a cooking class, a meditation session, and a Twitter tutorial. The schedule of sessions including locations can be found at http://www.semo.edu/create. Preregistration is not required.

On Saturday, April 6, a 5K Costume Fun Run/Walk (costumes optional) will be held at 9 a.m. with proceeds benefiting a Southeast scholarship. The race begins and ends at the CIE located at 920 Broadway. Awards will be given for best costumes and race times at the post race brunch at 10 a.m. which is free to all race entrants. Registration received by March 29 guarantees a t-shirt. Cost is $10 for Southeast students; for all others, registration is $20 if received by March 29, or $25 if received after March 29 and on race day.
