NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) -

One of the teachers who survived inside Sandy Hook Elementary School after hiding 15 students in a closet-sized bathroom is now teaching young people how to take care of someone else.

Kaitlin Roig started Classes for Classes, which is a pay it forward project for children.

"In life when somebody does something really nice, you have to turn around and make them feel the same way," Roig said.

She was one of the Sandy Hook teachers who went back to school in neighboring Monroe in the weeks following that horrible day.

On Dec. 14, 20 children and six adults were shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Since the tragedy, cards and gifts from all over the world have poured in.

"The one day when I brought a large box of recess toys, do you know who did this for us? They started raising their hands," Roig said. "They wanted to be nice, be kind and make us feel better."

That is how classes4classes.org was born. Roig set up the website to connect classrooms who need help with something, such as affording a new teaching tool with other classes who want to help.

The site even shows what the goal is and how close they are. Roig said that Dec. 14 was unimaginable, but it's not stopping her and her students from making a goal a possibility.

"These kids saying 'I want to give to someone else and I don't want anything in return, except that feeling,'" Roig said.

The project is currently in 14 classes in Connecticut and will be launched nationally in September.
