Update on the investigation of the Hampden house fire Friday

Posted: Updated:
HAMPDEN, MA (WSHM) -

Officials are still investigating the cause of the massive fire at a Hampden home Friday.

The 6,000 square-foot home on Somers Road was vacant at the time of the fire.

According to our media partner, Mass Live and the Republican, the owner of CJ's Towing, Craig Morel recently purchased the house for $850,000.

Morel said he's been told the fire appeared to be linked to the furnace.

There were no hydrants in the area, so firefighters had to use tanker trucks to bring water to the site.

Five other towns assisted Hampden in fighting the blaze.

The State Fire Marshal's Office continues to investigate.
