SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

One man has been charged with arson, domestic assault and felonious restraint after an argument late Monday night in Sikeston.

According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety (DPS), around 11 p.m. a couple was arguing at 534 Matthews Street.

"They argued and fought a lot but I never thought it would come to this," said Aaron Thomas, a tenant.

The argument became physical and 29-year-old Kenneth L. Davis of Sikeston is accused of turning over a bed and trying to set fire to the apartment.

Davis is charged with arson 1st degree, domestic assault 2nd degree, and felonious restraint.

Davis' 27-year-old girlfriend tried to stop him from setting the fire but was pushed down, according to Sikeston DPS.

"I've lived here like 4 or 5 years and now, I got to find another place," Thomas said.

Police say a blanket caught fire during the fight.

Police say the victim tried to take the burning blanket out of the apartment and was pushed by the suspect.

"Everything we lost can be replaced," Thomas said. "A life can not be replaced and that's what I was worried."

The blanket fell down inside the apartment and the victim fell out the door.

Flames spread through the apartment.

DPS fought the fire, but the apartment was heavily damaged.

Officials say the woman suffered injuries to her arm that were not life threatening.

Davis left the scene and was later arrested by DPS.
