Red Cross helping after Sikeston apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

Red Cross volunteers responded to an apartment fire on the corner of Matthews and Main St. in Sikeston, Missouri that affected six separate units.

Several of those who were affected by the fire are receiving Red Cross assistance for the emergency needs of shelter, food and clothing.

Money for their immediate needs will help them pay for accommodations for the next few days while they determine a recovery plan.

The Red Cross is still waiting to hear from others who may have been affected but were not home at the time of the fire. Three cases were open Tuesday afternoon and more cases may be opened as those families are contacted.

Caseworkers will provide support through additional assistance or referrals to other agencies in the community who can help the families.

Donations to the Red Cross can be made by going to, texting REDCROSS to 90999 or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS.
