GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

While many have enjoyed the warmer temperatures and dry, sunny days, forecasters said those conditions may increase the chance of severe weather as storms move into the Upstate on Thursday.

FOX Carolina Meteorologist Andy Wood said scattered showers will move into the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia in the afternoon, with thunderstorms increasing in the evening.

The main threat with the storms will be high winds capable of damage with a much smaller chance of an isolated tornado between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., according to Wood.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for most of northeast Georgia, the Upstate and western North Carolina until 2 or 4 a.m. Friday, depending on the county.

Forecasters said there is a chance of heavy rain, hail and the threat of a possible isolated tornado.

The chance for rain and severe weather prompted officials to cancel Thursday night's Piedmont Natural Gas Downtown Alive in Greenville, Block Party in Anderson and Music On Main in downtown Spartanburg.

Other events were rescheduled events because of the weather. Wofford College's Relay For Life was moved into Benjamin Johnson Arena. The college's Joy Prom will go on as planned.

Wood said the rain and storms will move out early Friday morning with sunshine returning during the day, with temperatures reaching the mid to high 70's.
