Project helps Ohio boaters recycle plastic wrap

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) - A state-run program is helping Ohio's boaters recycle the plastic shrink wrap that they use to protect their boats during the winter.

The director of the Ohio Clean Marinas Program says the program saves marinas and boaters the cost of getting rid of the shrink wrap and it turns the plastic into highway guardrail blocks.

The recycling project started in 2006. About 2 million pounds of shrink wrap have been recycled since then.

Program coordinator Sarah Orlando tells The News Herald newspaper ( ) in Port Clinton that there are about 100 marinas in Ohio taking part.
