Nashville woman shot in own home, lives to tell about it

Teleen Sickles Teleen Sickles
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

No one expects to dodge a bullet in their own living room. But an East Nashville woman is out of the hospital after bullets ripped through a door, right into her house last month. One of the bullets hit her. Luckily, the other bullet missed her kids.

"I'm really missing coffee in the morning," Teleen Sickles said.

Sickles has not had a cup of coffee for nearly a month.

"I got shot on my son's birthday and spent my other son's birthday in the hospital," Sickles said.

Sickles said normally she works nights, but that March evening she happened to be home and spending time with her kids.

She said she was sitting in a chair when she was shot. Sickles said she immediately turned her attention to her three children who were nearby.

"I didn't realize I was holding my side at the time until I had gotten all the kids out of the living room," Sickles said.

Sickles spent almost three weeks in the hospital and just recently went home. But the bullet that hit her still remains in her body, lodged under her pancreas, which means for now she can't eat or drink.

"This is a pick line," Sickles said. "I get all my nutrients, water through this tube."

Luckily, none of Sickles' children were hurt, nor the other family members who were in her home that night. Still Sickles said it's infuriating that someone would open fire on her home.

"It messed with not only my sense of safety in my home, but my children's sense of safety," she said.

But what frustrates Sickles the most is that the person to blame for her feeding tube is not behind bars.

"I want whomever this is found. I want them found," Sickles said.

Police said they are actively working to find the shooter, but so far they have no suspects. If you know anything about this shooting call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
