NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A week after a Pearl-Cohn High School student was gunned down while waiting to catch the school bus, a Nashville church was packed with folks saying goodbye to Johnathan Johnson and comforting his family.

It was called a day of celebration as hundreds showed up at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church to honor the short life of the 17-year-old student, but there were also tears.

The teen's mother, Sheena Johnson, openly wept for her son as the choir sang hymns of praise.

Teachers and school administrators were in attendance as a heavy police presence outside the funeral said volumes about the violent nature of the crime.

Johnathan was shot twice while waiting for the school bus in front of his north Nashville home, and the suspect in the shooting - 17-year-old Eric Goodner - remains on the run.

Mourners said enough is enough.

"Where does it end? That's what I want to know. Where does it end?" said family friend Sylvia Robinson.

"It's so sad, and it hurts. It makes me angry. I don't know," said family friend Latonya Oboh.

A motive in the shooting is still unknown.

Anyone seeing Goodner or having information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Emergency Communications Center at 862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
