LEOPOLD, MO (KFVS) -

You might be surprised once you see one of the best players on the Leopold Boys 5th grade basketball team.

Kyla Beel loves to play basketball, but her school doesn't have a team for elementary girls. So, she steps onto the court with the boys.

"I'm point guard on the team and I like being able to handle the ball," said 10-year old Beel.

Beel is known as a great basketball player in Leopold.

"I practice a lot at home, and I come to open gym here at the school," said Beel.

But Beel's not just one of the best girl basketball players, she's one of the best players on the boys team. Leopold doesn't have a girl's elementary team, so Beel stepped up to the line with the boys.

"They're bigger, and I know they're stronger than me, but it's actually kind of easy," said Beel.

"I think it's great, it's a great experience for Kyla but it's also a great experience for our boys to play with Kyla," said Andy Beck, Leopold's Athletic Director.

"I'm taller than most of the boys I've played, so it's kind of been easy to rebound, and shoot," said Beel.

"She's very aggressive, I'd say Kyla's probably the most aggressive kid we have in elementary not only is she aggressive she's probably one of the best all around players we have," said Beck.

Beck said the boys know it too.

"The boys want to give her the ball ... no I don't think anybody tries to give her a hard time, she's just as much of a competitor as anyone else out there and she really competes hard, and she really gives it everything she's got," said

Beel traveled to Jefferson City to put her free throw shots to the test, and she won first place.

"I was happy, really happy," said Beel.

"That was a huge deal, I thought that was pretty exciting," said Beck.

"I got first place, I made 21 out of 25," said Beel.

For Beel, it's that kind of win that comes from a strong game plan off the court.

"Go for what you want in life, and don't listen to what anybody else says," said Beel. "That's what my dad always told me, never to give up."

Beel also plays volleyball and softball.
