NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Two Metro officers were assaulted Monday trying to restrain a man accused of attacking a woman in front of them.

The incident occurred in the 800 block of Murfreesboro Pike in a parking lot of a business.

The officer said he saw a man slam a woman on the hood of car. He got out of his vehicle to try and help her, but the man elbowed him in the face.

The officer was able to call for back up and two other officers showed up at the scene.

A struggle ensued between the attacker, identified as James Tyron Ursery and police for about two to three minutes.

One of the officers was kicked, suffering injuries to his wrist.

Once he was restrained, police said Ursery, 29, continue to yell profanities and threatened to kick out of the windows of the patrol car.

Ursery faces charges of assaulting an officer, public intoxication, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and vandalism.
