POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

Authorities responded to a report of a suspicious package April 23 that was left unattended at the base of a railroad trestle.

Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Southeast Missouri Regional Bomb Team, the BATF-Cape Girardeau field office and the FBI-Cape Girardeau field office were on scene in the 200 block of South Riverview Drive in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, using the SEMO Bomb Squad Team robot, the package (a backpack) was pulled to a safe distance from the railroad property and dismantled with a water cannon.

Police say the backpack was found to contain clothing and assorted personal effects. They say the owner of the backpack has not yet been identified.
