CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A sinkhole in Cape Girardeau is continuing to get larger. Crews were back out to the site on Wednesday, June 5.

Crews dropped a total of 10 total huge sandbags to plug the underground sinkhole on Wednesday.

The sinkhole started out as a dip and has now grown much larger and has caused cracks through to the middle of the roadway.

The recent flooding caused the sinkhole to originally open up.

Police have barricaded around the sinkhole reducing Sprigg Street down to one lane in that area near La Cruz Street just south of Southern Expressway.

Police are warning people not to get to close to the sinkhole to avoid any potential injuries.
