MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Police believe an organized network of thieves could be responsible for equipment thefts in the Montgomery area.

CrimeStoppers is asking people to keep an eye out for a CME 550C Drilling Rig that was stolen just before 8 p.m. on April 16 from an area near an industrial park in Waugh.

Someone driving a big rig with a lowboy trailer and pick-up support showed up on site in Waugh and loaded the rig valued around $200,000 onto the trailer and drove off in about 20 minutes.

Carmichael Engineering, the owner of the equipment, was working on soil samples near the site. They never expected such a large piece of equipment to disappear.

"Especially a place like this because it was out of sight," said Mark Carmichael. "It was in the middle of a hay field. You couldn't see it from the road."

Police say, given the type of equipment, it's possible it could be sold overseas on the black market - that's why they're offering an increased reward and even alerting CrimeStoppers in Mobile.

Take a look at the drilling rig - police believe it might still be in the Montgomery area before possibly being taken to the Port of Mobile to be shipped overseas.

Because this is believed to be an organized network of thieves at work, authorities are offering a $1,000 reward in this case.

If you have information that could help investigators, or if you spot that drilling rig, call your local law enforcement agency or CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP.
