All the rain we've had this year is pushing corn planting season back.

Anthony Ohmes with the University of Missouri Extension says a lot of farmers are way behind their normal planting schedule.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports a similar story in Illinois. The fields are just too wet for farmers to get out in them.

"Corn if you plant it in cool soils, then it tends to sit there for a while and so seedling diseases and seedling rot or kernel rot are much more of a concern," said Ohmes.

Experts say this is the third year in a row farmers have had to deal with extreme weather.
