METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -

The hometown of Superman has seen its ups and downs over the years with the gaming revenue from Harrah's Casino.'

But, the first few months of this year the City of Metropolis is seeing less money then a year ago.

"Right now at today's revenue we're going to miss our budget by about $450-500 thousand  dollars for the year," said Metropolis Mayor Billy McDaniel. "Is that going to be earth shattering to the City of Metropolis, absolutely not."

Mayor McDaniel says that part of the dip in the city's revenue is due to a Isle of Capri Casino in Cape Girardeau that opened in October of last year.

"The Cape Girardeau boat is not going to steal all of Harrah's customers. At least they're holding their own wit a new casino that's within 50-miles from here. They've not been devastated," Mayor McDaniel said.

But, not everyone in Metropolis is seeing a loss in their businesses because the number of gamblers are down at the casino.

"Fortunately we have not seen any dip in revenue. We have had the same customers that come to us," said Kelsey Kennedy at Twice as Nice. "So we're still seeing our same loyal customers come here."

Now the City of Metropolis' Mayor is hoping that some more loyal customers of Harrah's Casino will start playing there soon.

"In March we were down $79-thousand dollars. So that's better then it was the month before. And let's hope at the end of the fiscal year that at least we're back to the point where were a year ago."
