CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Shoppers, artists, and animal lovers flocked to downtown Cape Girardeau Friday.

Jory Rapps, a Senior at Southeast Missouri State, organized Fashion Friday.

The event included discounts and giveaways at retail shops, plus mini-events inside each store like red carpet photos, a sketch artist, a styling competition, and live mannequins.

"Everybody is having a blast, even though it's raining, we still we've had a really good turnout, and people are just having fun, we've got the DJ in the street, we've got people drinking fruit cocktails at different stores and right now even my little sister is at Annie Laurie's doing a styling competition so they're having a blast," said Rapps.

Rapps said he based the event off of New York City's Vogue Fashion Night Out. Rapps was part of the New York event in 2011 while interning at a design label. The New York event was created to help stimulate the economy, and Rapps said he wanted to bring something similar to Southeast Missouri.

"We wanted to bring some of that excitement from New York to Cape, so this is just kind of what we came up with but it's been really well received," said Rapps.

At Woof Stock, people could bring their own dog to Cup and Cork, look at puppies from the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, listen to local music, or just get a cup of coffee.

"We're here from 5pm to 6pm we're having yappy hour, we do have puppies with us as well, and then from 6 to 8 we'll be having some musical groups, so sort of how it got it's name, Woof Stock," said Kelly Goff with the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.

Goff said these types of events are important to help get animals adopted.

"We always want to raise awareness, being in the public sphere helps us do that, Cup and Cork was generous enough to do donate the space as well so we're very grateful for that, and we do like to support local businesses as they support us as well, so it's kind of a nice partnership," said Goff.

The group said they hope to hold a similar event later this year when the weather is nicer.
