Bark for Life held at Stanley Park in Westfield

WESTFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Man and man's best friend came together Saturday, all in the name of raising money to fight cancer.

It was the third annual Bark for Life held at Stanley Park.

Fifty-four teams took part in what was expected to be a record-breaking event.

Not only was there plenty of people and pets, there was plenty of money to be raised.

Organizers expected to reach their goal of $60,000, which would be nearly double what the first two events raised combined.

"Last year we were the third largest Bark for Life in the country, and I think this year we may be the number one," said event chairperson Jim Stewart. "That is what we are hoping for."

Stewart said Bark for Life came about because dogs are not allowed at regular Relay for Life events.
