PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A Paducah man was arrested on various charges after police say he fought with a Paducah police officer and was apprehended by one of the department's K9s.

Randolph Robinson, 55, of Paducah, was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), resisting arrest, third-degree assault (police officer), second-degree fleeing or evading police and disregarding a stop sign.

Paducah police say an officer searched Robinson's back pockets on Friday after being alerted of possible drug activity. Police say Robinson tried to run, then turned and began fighting with the officer.

As the officer tried to handcuff Robinson, he said Robinson continued to try to reach into his front pocket. When Robinson put his hand in his pocket, the officer released K9 "Junior" from his police cruiser. Robinson was bitten on the back of his right arm, and conformed with commands to quit resisting.

Police say the officer found less than a gram of suspected crack cocaine in Robinson's pocket.

According to police, Robinson said he was "trying to get the crack out of my pocket to eat it."

Robinson was taken to Baptist Health Paducah for treatment, then booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
