CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

With three women trapped more than a decade, many believe they could have been rescued sooner. There have been reports of a woman seen crawling naked other reports of people hearing people banging on windows and doors.

That got us wondering, how well do you know your neighbors and what can you do to help?

Officer Darin Hickey with the Cape Girardeau Police Department says you should always look for suspicious things or things that just don't look right. He says one of the best things you can do is set up a neighborhood watch.

Hickey says it brings the whole neighborhood closer and gives everyone an understanding that everyone is looking after each other and if need monitoring each other.

"Anything that makes the neighborhood safer helps the police department because we can't be everywhere at once," Officer Hickey said. "We want to be and wish we could be, but we can't."

If you would like to start a watch program Hickey says contact the police department. People that currently have the program say you are welcome to attend their meetings to get ideas.
