MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) -
Two people have been cited for selling to minors who were acting under the supervision of undercover police officers.

On May 10 the Mount Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Division conducted alcohol compliance checks at numerous businesses in the Mount Vernon area.

As a result of these investigations two people at two businesses were issued citations for City Ordinance violations after an employee of the businesses provided alcoholic beverages to an underage minor.

The businesses/employees below were in violation as the employees served the underage minor alcoholic beverages:

The Crossing Bar- Amelia Ellis, Female, age 21.

The Hideout Bar- Clara Rutherford, Female, age 69.

A total of fourteen businesses were checked during the detail.

All other businesses checked properly asked for identification and refused sales to the underage person.

These investigations are done to bring awareness to the public and businesses involved in the sales of alcohol as to how easily minors can buy alcohol when employees fail to check identification as required by law.
