About half of the states have made the decision to expand Medicaid. Missouri lawmakers are currently debating the matter in Jefferson City. How will what legislators decide impact the state, and those currently living without health insurance?

HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) -

One third of the teaching staff in the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice at the Harrisburg facility lost their jobs.

This affects seven jobs.

According to AFSCME, children at the Harrisburg facility will not be able to receive a high school diploma because the curriculum will no longer exist when these teachers are terminated on June 30.

The Department of Juvenile Justice made the decision not to extend the vocational classes for the children at Harrisburg.

Since the closure of the Murphysboro facility, Harrisburg is the only juvenile facility in southern Illinois for youth who have been sentenced to incarceration.

According to AFSCME, the money has been made available and already earmarked for distribution in an earlier contract.

The instructors, teachers and other employees are reaching out to different organizations, community leaders and legislators to assist in maintaining the ability for the young men at the DJJ Harrisburg facility to obtain a high school diploma.
