Slight chance for severe weather this afternoon

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

After last night's devastation across the Metroplex, another round of strong storms is forming across our northern counties this morning. Isolated reports of hail have been coming in at times and this appears to be the main threat with these storms during the morning hours. By this afternoon we will begin to see the lower atmosphere warm into the lower 80s in many areas. It is at this time when a conditional threat for hail high winds and tornadoes will occur.

With temperatures warming above 80 degrees this afternoon there will be plenty of energy available for thunderstorms development. However, there is no real forcing mechanism to lift the air to cause thunderstorms development. However, there will be a couple of outflow boundaries, mini cold fronts, left over from this morning's storms drifting across our northern counties. This is where we could see an isolated storm or two re fire during the peak afternoon heat. The wind field is set up across East Texas to where any strong storm that can develop would rotate. This will increase the chance of hail high winds and even an isolated tornado or two.

Again today's threat is conditional, meaning if a storm were to develop this afternoon it would more than likely be strong to severe but there is good chance no storms will develop at all. Stay with KLTV and KLTV.com for the latest weather developments and if you have no done so yet, download the KLTV weather app at your smart phone's app store. It is free and could come in handy later this afternoon.
