CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The Plaza Galleria in Cape Girardeau is scheduled to be razed.

Tom Kelsey, broker and president of Lorimont Place Ltd., says the center opened in 1969 as a Kroger Supermarket at 2001 Independence Street.

In 1984 new owners turned it into a ice skating rink and shopping center.

At one point 20 or so businesses were the 56,000 square foot building at one time

The current owners are Dr. C.R. and Betty Talbert.

The are starting preliminary work for demolition and hope to demo the property in the next two or three weeks.

This property has been on the market for several years. Kelsey says most prospects are interested in the property, but not fixing up the old building. He is hoping with the old building down, it may bring in potential prospects.
