Jefferson County Crime Stoppers asks for help finding burglary suspects

JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Jefferson County Crime Stoppers needs the public's help in finding the person or people responsible for more than 33-burglaries since November 2012.

Seventeen burglaries have been reported in Mt. Vernon and 16-in Jefferson County.

Investigators say the suspects are breaking into mostly elderly people's homes late in the evening or early in the morning.

The suspects are taking cash and stolen jewelry and sometimes notice forced entry to their homes. In some cases, the elderly resident was at home sleeping during the burglary.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything about the persons involved are asked to call the Mt. Vernon Police Department at 618-242-2131 or Jefferson County Crime Stoppers at 618-242-8477 (TIPS).

A $500 cash reward is based on the arrest and conviction of the burglars.

If you share information with Crime Stoppers, you do not have to say your name or telephone number and you can remain anonymous. Their phone number is 618-242-TIPS (8477).
