Man accused of robbing Okawville bank

OKAWVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

A man is in custody facing bank robbery charges in southern Illinois.

According to Okawville Police Chief Steve Millikin, his department responded to a bank robbery that happened on Wednesday around 8:30 a.m.

Okawville police along with the Washington County Sheriff's Department, Nashville Police Department and the Illinois State Police, responded to the reported robbery of the Okawville First National Bank around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Chief Millikin says a man wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans was seen running away from the bank.

Chief Millikin says the man got into a vehicle and drove to Interstate 64 heading east.

Dawson then abandoned his vehicle at the 43-mile marker and ran west on the interstate.

After a short foot chase, Michael Dawson, 33, was arrested at the 42.5 mile marker by Chief Millikin.

Dawson was taken to the Washington County Jail.

Thursday morning, the Federal Bureau of Investigation took Dawson to the Federal Court House in East St. Louis where he was indicted and charged with bank robbery.

He was remanded to the U.S. Marshals where he will wait for trial.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

"Mr. Dawson was not armed and there were no injuries at all from the bank," said Millikin. "It's important to note that all U.S. Currency was recovered."
