House fire in Steele being investigated for arson

STEELE, MO (KFVS) -

Steele police and fire department responded to a structure fire Thursday, May 16 at 2:25 a.m.

Police Chief Joe Stanfield said the house fire was at 502 Wright Street. He said two adults,  husband and wife, along with three children safely escaped the fire.

According to Stanfield, the two adults woke up after hearing a loud noise and found their home was on fire. They quickly woke up their three children and evacuated.

During the investigation, Stanfield said it appeared the fire may have been deliberately set. Officers secured the scene and contacted the Missouri State Fire Marshal to help in the investigation. Fire fighters were on the scene for five hours extinguishing the fire.

Stanfield said at this time his department, along with the Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating this incident as a criminal case; first degree arson.

He urges anyone who may have information about the fire to contact his office at 573-695-3411 or Missouri State Fire Marshal arson hotline number at 1-800-392-7766.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved.

The victim's employer is also offering a reward of $10,000 to anyone who can provide information to law enforcement that leads to the arrest and conviction of person or persons involved in the incident.
