SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Friday afternoon, lottery officials confirmed that Saturday night's Powerball drawing has hit an estimated $600 million.

That number has Western Massachusetts residents thinking big.

"I would never have to work again," said Springfield resident Gelson Rosario.

Like many others, that was Rosario's first instinct when he asked about holding a winning Powerball ticket. With that much money on the line, he says it is an opportunity worth taking.

"You do not get that chance too often," said Rosario. "A couple of dollars. If you win, you win. If not, I would have wasted $10 on something else anyway."

"As soon as it jacked up over $300 million, people were coming in," said David Guardino, manager of the Pride station on West Street.

Guardino believes the numbers from lottery officials, who said they expect to average close to $24,000 in ticket sales per minute as the drawing nears.

"We have a lot of steady customers who will buy more tickets, but now you have people who would normally not buy lottery who are coming in and buying lottery all the time now," Guardino stated. "The last couple of days has been kind of crazy."

What is not crazy is imagining what to do if you hold the winning ticket. For Rosario, it is about more than just quitting his job.

"Help people out, family, neighborhood," said Rosario. "Do what I can positive with the money if I was to ever win something like that."

Now, if there is no winner in Saturday night's drawing, things get even more interesting.

Officials told CBS 3 that the next estimated jackpot would be worth $925 million.
