Man charged after woman shot, killed in Benton, IL

BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

An Elkville man faces charges in connection with the shooting death of a 23-year-old woman in Benton, Illinois Friday night.

Donald A. Lee, 39, of Elkville is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

According to Franklin County State's Attorney Evan L. Owens, Lee was charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of aggravated unlawful use of weapons by a convicted felon. His bond was set at $2,000,000.

Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler reports that he received a call from the Franklin County Hospital Emergency Room at 11:30 p.m. Friday concerning the death of a 23-year-old female that died from the result of a gunshot wound to the head. 

Brittany Marie Andrews, 23, of Whittington, Illinois died at 11:20 p.m. on Friday evening.

Leffler says the incident happened on the parking lot of Vickee's Card Shop in Benton.  

The autopsy was done on Sunday. Leffler says there is no further information regarding the cause of death at this time.  

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home of Benton with Rev. Mike Kniffen officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 20 p.m. Tuesday at the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home of Benton. Per Brittany's wishes, she will be cremated.
