SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Springfield police are searching for two suspects involved in an early morning home invasion on Franklin Street.

The husband and wife living in the home spoke to CBS 3, but asked to remain anonymous, saying they are still in fear for their lives.

"I can't even explain to you how scary it was," said the wife. "It's bad. I'm still in shock."

The break-in occurred around 3:30 Monday morning.

"We were in bed; they just broke my door,, they came in looking for money. I told them there was no money here," said the wife. "They took a piggy bank with $800."

The wife was unharmed, but her husband was hit a few times in the head with one of the robber's guns. His wounds were visible and blood still remained on his shirt during the interview.

"They grabbed my husband by the neck they pulled him in the room telling him where's the money, where's the money?" said the wife.

Police say they believe the home invasion was random and the couple says that they do not know who the robbers were or why they were targeted.

"I have no idea why," said the wife. "They were only like looking for jewelry and money and I'm like the only thing I have is my wedding band but they didn't take it they just took the safe box."

The detective bureau is currently investigating the break-in. Police say there is no need for residents to be alarmed but officer Charlie Yumans did offer up some advice on how to prevent your home from being targeted.

"You always have to be a little cautious, a little extra careful. You know at night you should double-lock your doors, double-lock your windows - check them now and then to make sure everything is fine," said Yumans.

Yumans also advises not telling too many people when you buy expensive items like a new TV or computer. He also reminds the public that random home invasions are rare.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Springfield Police Department's Detective Bureau at 413-787-6355 or to use text a tip. Tips can be sent to CRIMES (274637) text SOLVE in the message body and then your tip.
